Red hair, waterfalls, and zero bullshit
We planned P's outdoor boudoir session at Whatcom Falls because P wanted to highlight her gorgeous red hair against the greens and grays of the Pacific Northwest. Smart as hell, if you ask me. The contrast? Muah. Perfection.
P is straightforward and kind. No performative nonsense. No trying to be someone they're not. Just P, being a complete badass in nature, looking incredible. Iām obsessed.
Nerdy photographer meets nerdy client: a love story
Look, I can be a nerdy photographer. I get excited about color theory and natural lighting and the way water moves in long exposures. And P? Also nerdy. Different flavor of nerd, but still. She brought a fucking cape to her photo session! This is my ideal client experience, honestly.
That's the whole point, isn't it? Body positive boudoir shouldn't feel like you're performing for the camera. It should feel like you're just... existing. Being hot while existing in nature.
The plus size boudoir conversation we need to have
Here's something that pisses me off: the assumption that boudoir is only for certain body types. That outdoor photography is only for thin people. That plus size folks can't do this kind of work, or shouldn't want to, or need to wait until they look "different."
Fuck all of that.
Every single body deserves to be photographed beautifully. Every body deserves to take up space in nature. Every body deserves to see themselves and think, "Damn, I look good."
P is plus size. P is also strong, hilarious, kind, and an absolute vision at Whatcom Falls. These things all coexist. And honestly? The photos we created together are some of my favorites.
What P taught me about boudoir photography in Seattle
P chose some of my absolute favorite images from their session for their album and artwork. And you know what they picked? Not the "perfect" poses. Not the images where everything was technically flawless. They picked the ones where they looked like themselves. The ones with personality. The ones with that spark.
That's what good body positive boudoir photography in Seattle should do. It should capture you as you actually are, not some airbrushed fantasy version. P is straightforward, kind, hilarious, and badass. And that's exactly what shows up in their images.
Why I only get to share 2 images with you
I only have permission to share these 2 images, so the rest will have to be left to your imagination. But trust me when I say: the full gallery is fucking stunning. P trusted me to photograph them in a vulnerable, powerful way, and I'm so goddamn proud of what we created together.
If you're in Seattle and you've been thinking about doing an outdoor boudoir session but you're worried you're not the "right" body type, or not thin enough, or not whatever enough: stop. You're enough right now. Your body is good now. And you deserve to see yourself the way P saw themselves in these photos: absolutely badass.
