Boudoir is Healing
Every service provider should be on the opposite side frequently so we remember what it’s like for our clients.
I have hired boudoir photographers over the years and every time it is so incredibly healing. There is something so powerful about seeing yourself through someone else’ literal lens. Plus it means I get to hire the people I adore and admire, so it’s a win-win.
Laura, a white fat femme, is on a white couch, leaning back, mouth slightly open. It’s a soft, yet steamy vibe with Laura’s finger tips tracing their chest and the other hand in their hair. Eyes closed.
I came into my session with Good Bodies feeling, quite honestly, struggling with my body. I had just flew, which already heightens anti-fatness. From the airplane seats to the judgmental looks from others, it took my already negative feels about my body to an even more intense degree.
More than anything, I am a believer of
body neutrality and body acceptance.
Laura is on their knees, with a full booty pic. There are some water splashes on the booty for the wet look.
I do not need to love how my body looks at all times in all the ways; neither do you. My feelings will change as my body changes, as life changes, etc. and yours will, too.
Instead, I aim to be accepting of my ever-changing body. I aim to be whole and not miss life experiences because of my feelings towards my body.
I booked the session when my body was smaller, when I didn’t have a photography business, and when my life looked very different. As much as I’m immersed in fat liberation, I am not immune to internalized anti-fatness. TBH, I was nervous about how I was going to feel perceiving my own body.
Image to the right, Laura is on their knees, holding a sex swing (yes, that is indeed the scientific term), holding one arm all the way up and the other near their chest. Their eyes are closed, mouth open, looking very peaceful yet sexy.
When I arrived, I was honest with Tay that I did not want to be highlighting my stomach, but was open to being shown different images of myself. After all, I know the antidote to shame is sharing the thing in a safe place. And Tay!! Wow what a dream. Damn she is fantastic.
My session with Tayanna is a reminder of how healing boudoir can be.
I feel completely differently about my body after my session than I did the morning of my session. I feel more present in my body, more appreciative about my body and goddamn do I look sexy as fuck in these sneak peek images.
That’s the whole point of the boudoir magic we create. When it’s with the right photographer, it can change our we relate to our own bodies.
Boudoir is for you.
I can’t wait to share more. But for now, know that how you feel about your body is likely going to change. And I hope you use photos as a way of documenting your joy, your beauty, your celebration, and the range of other feels you have.
You deserve to take up space, especially in front of my camera.
