Beach vibes, baby bumps, and two very good pups

This adorable couple is expecting their first kiddo, and we got to celebrate them with a maternity photo session at the beach. And yes, their two dogs came along because of course they did. If you're having a baby, your dogs are absolutely part of the family portraits!

A and A are the kind of people who are easy to be around. They're kind, they communicate beautifully with each other, and they were genuinely excited to be there. Just pure "holy shit we're having a baby and we want to remember this" vibes.

Seattle beach maternity sessions hit different

We did this session at Mukilteo Beach, and honestly? I fucking love beach sessions for family portraits. There's something about the water and the sand and the natural light that just works. Plus, dogs love the beach. So if you're bringing your furry kids to your maternity session, a beach location is a solid choice as long as you’re down for the PNW fickle weather.

A and A were so down for whatever ideas I threw at them. Walk along the water? Hell yes. Sit on some logs with the dogs? Absolutely. Just stand there looking at each other like you're in love? Obviously. They trusted the process, and that trust shows up in the photos.

The text I got after the session

After we wrapped, A texted me that it felt so nice to reflect on their experience and journey. SAME! This is why I do this work.

Maternity photo sessions aren't just about getting pretty pictures (though you will get pretty pictures). They're about pausing in the middle of all the chaos and preparation and anxiety and excitement to just... be. To acknowledge where you are right now. To remember this specific moment before everything changes. And to have a daily visual reminder of how loved you are in this moment, in today’s body.

A and A are on this incredible journey. They're becoming parents. Their relationship is evolving. Their family is expanding. And they took the time to document it. That's beautiful as hell.

What I love about body positive maternity photography

Here's the thing about maternity photo sessions: they should feel like a celebration, not a performance. Your body is literally growing a human. That's fucking incredible. And whether you're plus size, thin, somewhere in between, tall, short, whatever - your pregnant body deserves to be remembered.

That's what body positive photography looks like in practice. It's not about achieving some specific aesthetic. It's about showing up and being yourself and trusting that your photographer (hi, that's me) knows how to make you look good without erasing who you actually are.
