Tips for Your Next Family Portraits
Is it your goal in 2025 to have family photos done? I hope you find the most perfect photographer for your family! Here are some of my tips, as a family portrait photographer, for how to best prepare for your photo session.
1.Find a photographer that suits your needs
This is the most important tip because it can make or break your experience. Finding the right photographer isn’t just about the post production editing style, but it’s about finding someone you’re comfortable with. This means take a few minutes to get to know your potential photographer before you make a decision. Remember that while you might have an idea of what you want, a photographer will guide, educate, and leave you feeling thrilled!
2. Decide a location that has enough space
This should be the photographer’s job, but if you have a favorite place in mind, make sure it has enough space! There should be plenty of space away from other people, if in public, or at least enough for kids to run around and be kids.
3. Prepare your clothing
Again, the right photographer will partner with you on this choice. But I always recommend mid-tones to my clients, such as greys, blues, tans, browns, greens, etc. This can depend on what you have available, your family style, and the location.
4. Bring snacks and water
Make sure everyone is well fed and rested! With my clients, I have a flexible rescheduling policy because it’s more important that everyone is happy.
5. Prepare to invest!
Family portraits are an investment in your future! With the right photographer, you should have images and artwork that thrill you. This artwork is not only a visual reminder of how stunning you all look now, but a reminder of how loved everyone in the family truly is. This kind of artwork can be passed down for generations; the best kind of wedding gift!
