How to Make Photos More Fun for Kids
Do your kids hate getting family photos done? There could be an endless list to why that might be. But as a family portrait photographer, the problem might be the photographer.
When I was a social worker, I worked with kids of all ages with all kinds of family structures. What I noticed over and over is that kids want to be part of the process. For every family and age group, this could look different, of course, and the parents will always make the safety decisions. But generally, kids have have great ideas and have way more fun than adults!
With my family photography clients, I make sure to ask about each kids’ personality and ages. Maybe it’s that they can wear a favorite shirt, bring a favorite stuffie, or get to shine in their favorite hobby fit. Do they love karate? Maybe they bring their instrument or a soccer ball. Maybe they want to bring a wand and cape! We can be creative to make sure each kid is having fun and we will get the aesthetic family image for the parents.
I don’t have time limits on my photo sessions because every kid has a different timeline. Sometimes sessions are 20 minutes and sometimes they are 2 hours playing together. It’s up to each family for what fits best for you.
Your kids deserve a voice in someway at some point. The purpose is that you will connect as a family, having a good experience while taking images.
