Celebrating Love and Family at Discovery Park: An Outdoor Family Portrait Session

What a treat to freeze family moments in nature, and this Discovery Park session was no exception. S and B chose to celebrate their elopement surrounded by the vibrant yellows of fall foliage and the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. As someone who specializes in outdoor family portrait sessions, I love when couples embrace the authenticity of the season: rain, wind, and all. And this session had all of it!

What made this session particularly memorable was the balance between intimacy and joy. This couple wanted their photos to reflect not just their love, but their playful, giggly side too. We wandered through the park, playing near massive trees and taking advantage of the gorgeous natural backdrop. Outdoor family photography isn't about perfection, it's about capturing real moments, genuine laughter, and the connections that make each family unique.

The weather didn't cooperate entirely (welcome to Seattle!), and we got caught in heavy rain on the walk back to the car. But here's the thing about outdoor portrait sessions: sometimes the unexpected moments become the most cherished memories. This couple was surrounded by their loved ones, they shared heartfelt vows, and they embraced every moment of their day with authenticity and grace. Rain on your wedding day is supposed to be good luck anyways, right?

If you're considering an outdoor family portrait session, know that it's about celebrating exactly who you are: your love, your laughter, your bodies, and your story. If you are considering a family session in any outdoor location, the magic happens when you show up as yourself and let nature provide the perfect backdrop.
