LGBTQ+ family portraits after adoption in Seattle

The adoption industry can be messy, traumatizing, and harmful - especially for the child/ren being adopted. While this can be true, I know there are some circumstances in which adoption can bring a sense of safety and belonging for them, too. So this blog will assume that’s who is reading - the thoughtful, queer parent(s) who are advocating for the kid over their feelings or desires. Same page? Okay let’s continue!

You just adopted - congratulations!! You fought through the paperwork, the waiting, the uncertainty, the bullshit that LGBTQ+ families face in the adoption system. And now your family is legally recognized. That deserves to be fucking celebrated!

Why adoption photos matter for queer families

For LGBTQ+ families, adoption is often how we build our families. And unlike straight couples who get endless maternity representation and newborn sessions, queer adoptive families sometimes skip the photo celebration entirely. Maybe because the adoption journey was exhausting. Maybe because you're not sure if adoption "counts" as a milestone worth documenting.

But it matters, a lot.

What adoption sessions look like

During outdoor family portrait sessions in Seattle after adoption, we're celebrating your new family configuration. Whether you adopted a baby, a toddler, an older kid, teenage or siblings -we're documenting this new beginning. This is a season of transitioning and merging. The exhausted joy on your faces, the cautious excitement of a kid figuring out their new family, the relief of finally being together officially.

These sessions aren't stiff and formal. We let everyone adjust to each other. If your newly adopted kid is shy, we work with that. If they're bonding through play, we capture that. If they're still figuring out if they trust you, that's part of the story too. Adoption isn't instant magical bonding: it's a process, and your photos can show that reality.

For all types of adoptive families

Single queer parents, two moms, two dads, polyamorous families, trans and non-binary parents - all adoption stories deserve documentation. Plus size bodies included, accessibility needs accommodated, all family structures celebrated. Your adoption journey might have been harder because you're queer, but your celebration photos shouldn't be.

Turning adoption into daily affirmation

After your session, we'll create customized artwork for your Seattle home—photos that show your adoptive family exactly as you are. These become daily visual reminders that your family is real, chosen, and worth celebrating. Because that's what adoptive families need: proof that you belong together, hanging on your walls.
